THERMOKIL

Until now infestation deep in plant or equipment could only be treated by fumigation with
toxic gases like methyl bromide. This had inevitable consequences on production and
maintenance because, not unnaturally, the area had to be isolated and all staff excluded from
often the whole building. This usually resulted in days of lost production with all the
associated loss of revenue and perhaps the need for extra costly overtime to catch up. In
addition, because methyl bromide causes serious ozone depletion, its use is soon to be
withdrawn leaving no practical alternative…

Precision’s new Thermokil insect control system is a safe non-toxic method of killing all insect
stages deep inside equipment and silos based on temperature control.

All insects die when exposed to moderately high temperatures, the lethal temperature does
vary a little for some species but almost all die above 52 Celsius. All stages of the life cycle
are killed as heat penetrates even gas tight areas leaving no eggs to re-colonise the
equipment once the fumigation is completed.

The Thermokil system in operation.

The blower is used to input volumes of high temperature air into the equipment to be treated.

Sensors and computer controls ensure that the temperature is kept above 52 Celsius until all stages of the insects have been killed.

The biggest advantage of the Thermokil system is that it does NOT require the site to be closed for treatment. A small risk Area is declared, and normal working can continue around this.
